Hey dolls, hope you're all keeping well, I'm so happy we're in February right now! I'm sorry but was that not the longest January in history?? It was a little too long for my liking, all I can think about is sunny days and warmer weather, I can't wait for summer! Bring it onnnnn..
Anyways...down to business before I start rambling.
So today's post is a little different to my usual but I felt it's something I wanted to share, given that weather wise it's such a miserable time of year and everyone is prone to flu's and chest infections. If you follow me on snapchat you'll know that a few months ago I became quite sick. I caught a cold around the end of August, just the usual cold/flu symptoms like sneezing, sore throat, coughing...but it was the coughing that ended up being my biggest problem and the bane of my life for 2 and a half months to follow. I managed to shake off the cold symptoms after a week or so, but I was still coughing, and when I say I was coughing it felt like each time I coughed I my lung was about to come out. Sorry I know that's a little too much information.. I would have coughing fits during the night, first thing in the morning, during work, it was constant. At the time I just went to the chemist and got a cough bottle over the counter but it didn't ease it for long. I kept coughing, really bad. I couldn't have a conversation with someone without me losing my breath and taking a coughing fit. My eyes would tear up and I would end up gulping water. Not an ideal situation to be in considering the nature of my job. I was doing public masterclasses at least once a week and for days in advance I would be filled with anxiety at the thought of speaking for 2 hours straight in front of 30/40 people and having numerous coughing fits throughout. I felt every time I came on snapchat to talk I was constantly saying that I couldn't shake it off. I was so down in myself, I felt like I couldn't do my job properly because being sick was constantly getting in the way.
Over a period of 8 and a half weeks I had been to my GP twice, I was told my lungs were clear, I had a course of antibiotics, 2 Ventolin inhalers and 6 cough bottles. None of these worked.
I couldn't understand it. This will probably sound dramatic but I got to a point where I started to think I would never get better. I had never in my life been as sick I had been. I was in pain from coughing so much and I would cry out of pure frustration.
It took me 2 months to find a cure...but I FINALLY found one!
Scrolling through Facebook one day I saw a post about 'Salt Therapy' and how it was known to be highly effective in relieving coughs, flus and chest infections. The pure salt is supposed to draw the mucous from your chest. (Again, sorry to sound graphic). At this stage I was willing to try anything! I discovered the 'Salt of The Earth' salt clinic in Bryanstown, Drogheda. The reviews were fantastic. I got in contact straight away and booked to attend an appointment that very day. I'll be completely honest, I was a bit taken aback when I got there.. It was like walking into a room full of sand (but it was really salt). It was everywhere.. The floor, the walls, everywhere. Basically you just have to go into this room, they close the door and turn on this massive fan.. You sit for an hour and just breathe as normal . Take your book in with you to pass the hour. There were children in the room next to me with their parents, playing away while the Salt got to work. I noticed a lot of parents had left reviews in the client manual as to how Salt Therapy worked wonders for their children who had been suffering with coughs or chest infections.
The manager whose name is Kenneth was so helpful and answered all questions that I had about Salt Therapy. He did advise that it would take more than one session to see results and also that my cough would start to get worse before it would get better, purely because the salt was moving everything off my chest. To be honest I found the whole experience quite relaxing, if anything it's total 'Zen time' which I also wasn't complaining about but I knew I would need a couple of sessions for this to work, and fast.
After just one session at Salt Therapy I did notice that I was coughing a lot more, a sign that the Salt was loosening my chest. This was a sign that it was working, however my only problem was my busy schedule. At the time I was crazy busy with makeup, blog posts, events, masterclasses and everything in between. I felt there wasn't enough hours in the day and I was struggling to find another spare hour to go to Salt therapy. But I found the perfect solution!!
I saw a sign in Health Express Pharmacy in Scotch Hall advertising Salin Salt machines. I had a chat with the manager and she explained to me that the Salin machine is basically Salt Therapy that you can do from your house. It's like a little fan that's infused with a panel of natural salt. I again read up on the reviews online and just like the Salt clinic they were all super. I decided the Salin machine was more convenient for me personally as I could use it at night when I was at home. As I said, I was willing to try anything at this stage.
I bought the Salin Salt machine on the second last Monday of October, I went home from Scotch Hall and plugged it in straight away. 3 days later, on the Thursday of that exact same week, I was around 70% BETTER! Don't get me wrong, I coughed a LOT over those 3 days as the mucous in my chest was clearing but I rapidly started to see a difference. I was in awe and my Mam kept commenting on how she noticed that my cough had eased dramatically. I couldn't believe how well it had worked, I had spent so much money on medicine but the natural approach is what really cured me.
So how does the Salin Salt machine work? You plug it in in your bedroom before you go to sleep and the fan will dispense the salt into the air. Keep all windows and doors of your room closed at all times while your salt machine is on, you want to keep the salt in the room. Keep it beside your bed, close to your head and leave it on all night. If I'm having a day off or I'm working on my laptop for hours at a time I'll keep my Salt machine beside me, plugged in. It's not too big or bulky, here's a picture of it on my vanity table.
We are now in the second week of February 2018 and I can happily confirm that unless I needed to clear my throat I haven't coughed at all since the last week of October 2017! I also want to make it very clear that this is in no way a sponsored blog post.
I purchased the Salin Salt Machine with my own money and this post is purely my honest experience. I'll never forget those horrendous 2 and a half months of torture, constantly coughing so much and being unable to do normal, everyday things because of it. It became unbearable and was physically and mentally draining.
I know at this time of year people are so prone to coughs and chest infections and I just wanted to share my personal experience of how Salt Therapy cured me.
I'm 100% better now and I am able to sleep without my machine on every single night, but I do usually have it on 3 nights out of 7 just incase.. I still have a little bit of fear in me! ;). In total the Salin Salt machine cost me €169.00 in Health Express Pharmacy, again I was not asked to try it or review it, I purchased it myself purely in the hope that it would make me better, and it did. If you have any questions on the Salin Plus Salt machine or you want to hear more of its benefits you can contact the staff at Health Express by clicking HERE ,all the staff are so helpful and extremely knowledgable. You can also contact the 'Salt of The Earth' clinic to enquire about treatment by clicking HERE
I know this is quite a long blog post but I hope you enjoyed it and hopefully some of you out there will find it helpful. Salt Therapy worked miracles for me and I couldn't be more grateful to be well again. It's true what they say, your health is your wealth!
As always, if you have any questions don't be afraid to get in touch.
See you all soon guys,
Kisses,
Xx Dawn L.A
